Free choice of hospital
|
The free choice of hospital initiative was reinstated on 1 July 2009, which means that you now again have the right to be treated at a private hospital if your public hospital can not offer you treatment within a month. What does this mean for you? In practice, the reinstatement of the free choice of hospital initiative means that if you are referred for treatment or an initial examination at a public hospital in your region or another public hospital that your region has an arrangement with, and they are unable to offer you treatment within a month, then you have the right to be referred to a private hospital. A requirement is that the private hospital has made an agreement with the regions, which Skodsborg Private Hospital has. If you belong to the aforementioned group and you wish to have an initial examination or treatment privately, you simply request a referral from your local public hospital to a private hospital of your choice. How to calculate the waiting time: The waiting time is calculated from the date on which the public hospital in your region received a referral from your doctor and the date on which treatment can begin. This does not include the period when you are having the initial examinations, but waiting more than two weeks for diagnostic examinations, however, is included in the guarantee. This could include MRI scans, X-ray examinations, etc. However, sometimes your local hospital knows as soon as they receive a medical referral that they can not comply with the treatment guarantee of one month and in these cases, the hospital should immediately offer to refer you to a private hospital, which has a contract with that region. Where to get more information: All regions have a patient liaison department where a patient liaison advisor is available to provide you with information and inform you of your rights, and what the waiting time is at your local hospital. You can also get guidance and help to be referred to a private hospital that offers treatment for precisely the diagnosis that you have been given.
